Alcohol Abuse

Alcohol may be legal, but heavy drinking carries serious consequences, including health issues, legal trouble, and lifelong addiction.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment

According to The National Institute on Drug Abuse, in 2011 30% of men over the age of 12 engaged in binge drinking and 9.1% of men engaged in heavy drinking, classified as binge drinking at least 5 days out of a 30 day period.

For many young men, alcohol addiction is deadly. According to the CDC there are over 80,000 deaths each year in the US attributed to excessive alcohol consumption. The first step in alcohol addiction treatment at PACE Recovery is a successful detoxification from substances.

The Detox Process

It is crucial that alcohol is out of the client’s system for health concerns and for effective clinical therapeutic treatment to take place. If the client has developed alcohol dependence, detoxification is especially crucial to avoid medical complications. The detox process at our men’s alcohol rehab is individual and contingent upon the client’s history with alcohol. This process can last anywhere from a few days to a week or longer. Regardless of the length of detoxification, we strive to make the client as comfortable as possible. Once detoxification is complete, treatment can effectively begin.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Clients at our men’s alcohol rehab will become a part of a large recovery community through Alcoholics Anonymous. These meetings are a great tool in diminishing the shame involved with the disease of alcoholism by allowing the client to connect and share about their experience with addiction with others who have also struggled. Clients will attend daily therapeutic groups with skilled clinicians discussing topics ranging from emotional management, relapse prevention, experiential therapy, co-dependency, and learning healthy life skills. Groups are facilitated by doctorate level therapists, master’s level addiction therapists, and certified drug and alcohol counselors.

Addressing Dual Diagnosis

It is imperative that any underlying dual diagnosis issues such as anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder or other personality disorders are addressed while in our California addiction treatment center. In most instances, addiction was a maladaptive coping mechanism for these underlying issues, and if the client is not equipped with new healthy coping mechanisms and tools, then the addiction has a greater chance of reoccurring. That is why these underlying dual diagnosis issues are clinically handled at PACE Recovery through intensive individual and group therapy, as well appointments with our Psychiatrist if medications are necessary.
